Is it based on scientific research? Yes, Alice Domar is the pioneer regarding mind-body program on its effect on fertility. However, this is not a scientific-oriented book; this is not the book to buy if you want to understand your anatomy; but it’s a great support tool if you are going through fertility challenges.
Her Opinion: : A bit of context on the author before diving in the book. About thirty years ago, Alice Domar began exploring the impact of psychological distress on fertility, as part of her PHD in Healthy Psychology. She has since created her Mind/Body Program, which “teaches women strategies to reduce anxiety, depression, and distress through relaxation, mindfulness, cognitive restructuring, and yoga”. It’s a great book to feel supported and to know that other women like you are going through what you may be going through.
Chosen quotes from the book
“Mindfulness is important for infertile women for several reasons. Because of the cyclical nature of reproduction, you are constantly thinking of past and future – the period you had last month, the period you’re hoping not to get this month, the medical procedure scheduled for next week. What’s more, infertility is so stressful that it can overshadow everything else in your life – even the good things. Mindfulness can help you remember that even though you’ve got a terrible, horrible stressor in your life, this is not the only thing.”
